Clear a working area on a busy desk
Make space for the next task without reorganizing every drawer.
Editorial sample — awaiting final review.
This review sample starts with a usable surface rather than a complete desk makeover.
Name the next task
Decide what the surface needs to hold: a laptop, a notebook, or papers you are sorting. That gives you a concrete area to clear.
Sort what is in the way
Put items into three temporary groups: needed now, belongs elsewhere, and needs a decision. Use existing containers or empty parts of the surface.
Return the essentials
Keep only the tools for the next task in the working area. For example, a notebook and pen might stay while old receipts move to a separate paper tray.
Close the temporary groups
Return the “elsewhere” items and choose a later action for the decision group. Do not leave temporary piles labeled as a finished system.
